Snow in Jo'burg?

Many parts of the Witwatersrand were blanketed in a layer of icy crystals when we woke up this morning. In Johannesburg it was our first real fall since September 10, 1981. Roads have been closed to motorists, some shops have been closed and airport traffic was delayed for hours. Very strange indeed! This may not seem significant, but it is a big deal to South Africans. Above you can see images of Johannesburg, the back of my car and our garden.

I was living in Jo'burg when it last snowed. It was the first time that I had ever seen snow. It was magic. I live in Europe now so it has lost some of its charm! Where abouts in Jo'burg are these pics taken. I was living in Auckland Park in '81 and remember the drive up the hill and then my driveway....

Heat and droughts are the norm here, not snow... but it felt a bit magical. These photos were taken in Norwood, not too far away from Auckland Park.

Oh! Good old Norwood. Snow in Joburg, and then this week snow in Buenos Aires.
